Hope for India

From June to August I will be traveling to India to work with victims of sex trafficking through an organization named Rahab's Rope. This verse from Isaiah is my hope and vision as I encounter these rescued women. The Lord promises to bind up the broken hearted, to comfort them and restore them. I am already praying for all the women I will encounter in India and I pray that the Lord will touch them and restore them with His Hope.

"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion - to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor. They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations." Isaiah 61:1-4

day 3

Today was my first day in the slums, we had a wonderful day with the children in preschool and nutrition class. we work with them to hopefully keep them in school and learning english so that they can avoid "going into the line" or being prostituted. In nutrition class we give out protien milk and all the little children love weighing themselves on our scale, most are under 30 lbs at age 8. a little boy from pakistan told me i was beautiful which made me smile, and everyone was amazed by my dimples, they had never seen anything like it. after lunch we work with the women, today we had english class and are helping them learn basic english so that they can hopefully get other jobs. we held basic conversation with them after class in english to help them practice while we painted their nails, they loved watching their nails go from white to pink and wanted to show everyone. the bus to and from the slums was something i had never experienced before, there is no such thing as personal space in India. 2 people sit per seat in the bus and then everyone else packs in way beyond and comfortable level and must stand back to back all the way down the center row and stand in the foot room of each person sitting in a seat. it is mass chaos. the jet lagg is still hitting me hard but i hope in a few days it will wear off so i am not so tired when working during the day. But i am amazed by the peace and energy the Lord has given me on little to no sleep, overall it was a great day and so thankful for the kindness and love from the Indian people and friends and family at home.

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God and God in him- 1 John 4: 16
